This is a time in Russia that will never happen again, much like the origional melting pot that produced the contemporary American identity, this clash of cultures is producing something new here. It will be a long time before it solidifies, but it's the most awesome thing in the world to watch it happen first hand.
I finally got over my weirdness and talked to a native speaker I heard here in the internet cafe. They were standing in a group, and I noticed Books of Mormon in their hands. So, I decided, what the heck, the worst they can do is prostelatize.
Turns out we have quite a connection. They arrived around the same time that I did, but for 2 years. They are on their mission. Elder Zimer and Elder Bolton. I got their number and they're starting a small basketball-playing time for some missionaries and others who speak English. I'm looking forward to it, I'll give them a call tomorrow or Sunday.
I think it's cool that they're on their mission here what with Bulleigh just coming back from his. I get to see what he experienced before I even get to talk to him about it.
Tomorrow is my last saturday night in Voronezh. The next two I'll be spending in Moscow. I'm excited about leaving, and I'll miss it all the same. But talking with LaRae, Crawford, and Karner has made me really look forward to this Christmas break. There's nothing in this whole world more important than relationships.
