Kristin and I just watched most of "The Irony of Fate." It's a bigtime Russian film that you traditionally watch on New Years Eve. It's really really good. A lovestory, but non-traditional, or at least, non-western-traditional. Maybe that's why I like it. I think I'll try to find it here and bring it home with me. Since DVD's are all of 5 bucks here.
So we arrived in Voronezh at around 9:00pm after sitting still for an hour to adjust to the time change. That was a blast. I did get to read some of the research that I brought with me with one realllly interesting finding. I'll try to keep it short.
Baylor students to rate their agreement with 12 Biblical commandments (big 10, Love the Lord your God, and Love thy neighbor) on a 1-9 scale. Average agreement across all 12, 6.8 or so. Pretty high. None of the individual commands were below a 4.5 or so, the break of agree to disagree. Now, this study was measuring religious humility. These students were asked to degree to which they think OTHERS agree with these commandments. Average over all 12, 3.25. In the disagree category! It was really surprising to me anyway. Think about it. I was a participant in this study, maybe that's what it's so interesting.
Anyway, I'm home, back to the coal mine. More tomorrow!
