The bait and switch

(real lion food - http://www.thesandiegochannel.com/news/2752524/detail.html)

Waco is giving me a real great "WELCOME" sign, except for the fact that the letters are painted in crime and mishap.

Shortly after I penned my last entry, I toddled off to bed. Around 4 in the morning I was awakened by my frightened girlfriend who had been staying on my couch since her electricty wasn't turned on till today. She told me there was someone milling about outside and beating on things. I approached the peephole on the door only to be scared out of my pants by the immediate sound of glass shattering.

So, I did what any man with 3 swords, a morning star, a spear, 7 daggers, a butterfly knife, and a chainmaile shirt beside him would do, I hid and called the cops.

They arrived rather swiftly with 4 freaking squad cars, already with a man matching the description LaRae gave in the back of the lead car. They talked to us for a while and demonstrated that the broken class wasn't car glass, as I had expected, it was the bedroom window right next to Mike's. The person occupying said bed stated that he had broken his own window to get in because he had forgotten his keys inside (he left unstated that he must have been in one serious state of intoxication to smash his own window to get in his house.)

After a really interesting discussion with Officer Mason concerning communitariansim and crime, the officers made their way back to patrolling the streets and the only thing we heard about the attempted crime was the moron next door telling the maintenance staff that someone tried to break in his apartment (the next morning.) The moral to this story? People suck.

I was greeted by another wonderful experience this morning. After a very late night of Lord of the Rings Risk (tm), I crashed. Around Noon we are awakened by the blaring sounds of wet-vacs. Turns out every apartment on the bottom floor of our complex was flooded with sewer water last night as the lines backed up. Lovely, eh?

Needless to say, I'm terrified to wake up tomorrow.

I'm off to spend $400.00 on books, wish me luck. Next update: Colloquium books!
