"i am the sole inhabitant of the pirate's cove. (feel free to join the blogring "b.rae's pirates." ...we like you.) :)
the pirate's cove is where i live, and where everyone gathers on a daily (or so) basis. there is constant art, constant food, constant music, constant friendship, and constant creativity and fun happenings at the cove.
the name "the pirate's cove" comes from a myriad of places:
- first and foremost, the Peter Pan story. (eg Hook, Peter Pan, etc.) Pirates are the adults in NeverNeverLand. They are grouchy, grimy, dirty, and mean to Peter, Tink, Wendy, and The Lost Boys. However, there are many good reasons for being a pirate.
First of all, the loyalty. Pirates stick together, only sabotageing quiet, unsuspecting townships and coastlines.
Second, the costumes. In a world where nothing is what it seems, playing dress-up -- well, playing in general is a crucial part of life.
Third, there's a reason that the pirates are in NeverNeverLand, and it's not because they are just docked there until their next pillaging spree. Pirates love adventure, love travel, love the smell of the salty air blowing through their wigg-ed tresses... but pirates also love their home. J.A.S. Hook, Captain has never left NeverLand... and it's not because he's out of Dramamine... it's because he loves his roots and his hometown.
(Note: The Pirate's Cove, my apt., is located in the town where i go to college - consequently, the town i grew up in. Also, the pirate's cove is everyone's home away from home... always open, welcoming, and warm.)
Also, being a pirate is appropo because Captain Hook and the others didn't have working clocks (think: tick-tock-the-croc) in NeverNeverLand. The Pirate's Cove is a place where time melts away and the blurs of day and night go by quickly but with great joy. Linear time means nothing to the pirates -- and linear time means nothing to us. It's about the quality of our time spent together -- at this bright little island in a world of hours, seconds, minutes, and days. (Also, my battery in my alarm clock ran out, and i don't know how to set my microwave. Go figure.)
"So, Peter, you've become a pirate." -- Wendy
There are other reasons involving a question my dad asked me once, and some spiritual symbolism (that i won't go into here), and also the fact that i hang out on the beach and in the Carribean Sea (in the Bahamas) a lot, and just love all things nautical/pirate.
...It's a complex name for a complex place.
Weird. My last apartment was just called The Maxi Pad."
That's one helluva gal there, that b.Rae.
