Terrorism and Homosexuality. What a day.

see edit below if you're checking back

Hooray for the weekend!!!!

This week has really been nuts. Two tests, plus sing 7 of the last 8 days. My last test was today at 9:00am. I woke up at 9:01...But I made it so it's all good. Rowatt called me to see if I was going to come. Luckily I was already on the way.

LaRae's valentine's day present will be here today!!! I'm thrilled. I really hope she'll like it, it's a bit different than my normal method. But you know, I think it's more "me." After V-day I'll show everyone what it was.

I have no idea what we'll be doing for valentine's day. LaRae said she wanted to take over the holiday this year, but has since asked me to take it back, I refused. I want her to realize that it doesn't have to be some immaculate plan to be a good time. Besides, it couldn't be immaculate if I planned it at this point. No money, no time.

EDIT: Wow. I'm reading Fark.ru today, and I found out that a terrorist set off a suicide bomb inside the geen line metro going from Avtozavodskaya to Paveletskaya stations. The bomb went off shortly after pulling away from Avtozavodskaya platform this morning, in the second car of the train (primary car). It was instantaneous. I believe everyone in the car died. The first and third cars' windows were blown out by the blast and the entire train was on fire inside the metro tunnel. Hundreds were injured.

I've been exposed to all kinds of terrorist attacks on different nations. Bombings of embassies, and of course 9/11. But I'd never been to any of those places when the attacks occurred. They were on TV. I've ridden that metro. I've gone on that exact route more than 10 times. That could have been me. One minute I could have been laughing at Kristin's furry coat, and the next, dead. The same thing happened to hundreds of innocent Muskovites today. One said "he saw arms, legs scattered around the carriage. He said it was bloody carnage." I'm really saddened about this. What can a man do in the face of so much death, so much reckless violence. Can it be answered with violence? I don't think so. But I wonder if non-violent understanding can ever arise either. END EDIT

So, a couple of days ago a homosexual student had their scholarship stripped and was given a swift boot out of Baylor University's Truett Siminary. Most of the people reading this may not have a problem with that...but I think I do. Jarrod and I had a discussion in which I was a bit evil. He said: "The Bible says in Deuteronomy [sic] that homosexuality is an abomination." I responded:

"Yes, Leviticus 18:22 says that, I was wondering though, I'm interesting in selling my youngest daughter into slavery as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. She's a prime candidate, what would a good price for her be? Also, my friend Mike here, he insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death, Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or is it okay to call the police? Here's one that's really important because we've got a lot of sports fans in this town. Touching the skin of a dead pig makes one unclean. Leviticus 11:7. If they promise to wear gloves, can the Bears still play football? Does the whole town really have to be together to stone my friend John for planting different crops side-by-side? Can I burn my mother in a small family gathering for wearing garments made from two different threads?" (inspiration taken from a good speech I read long ago.)

I'm not denying that homosexuality is a sin, but I'm also not denying the soverignty of God. I am denying the thinly veiled teachings of my religious tradition, that some sins are the "really dirty ones." God is sovereign, yes? Then His control can account for the student, He can lead that student to reach people that may not normally have been reached. I'm still thinking about it, but a removal of scholarship...goodness. Baylor's begging for bad press.
